Yoga During Pregnancy
Keep Your Mind And Body Fit & Healthy

yoga during pregnancy

Doing a little yoga during pregnancy can be a fantastic way to start getting fit, or if you're already quite a fit person already then continuing to stay in shape. The gentle stretching and concentrated breathing techniques can help to keep your body and mind healthy throughout the months of pregnancy, and often in the postnatal period too.

Yoga takes an holistic approach to exercise. It can be traced back as far as five thousand years, and if it's still around today - well then it must be doing something right for people!

Yoga consists of different 'poses' or correctly termed 'asanas'. Doing yoga during pregnancy will require you to perform some of the poses while you also control your breathing. 'Pranayamas' - the correct term for the breathing techniques are a very important part of yoga.

Practising yoga in pregnancy is a way to keep your mind and body in shape. Why your mind? Well yoga can help you to learn to focus, which you will need to do for the birth. As for your body, the poses that you will practice will help to keep your muscles toned and supple.

Doing yoga during pregnancy can also help to relieve a lot of those niggley pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness, back ache and cramping.

Yoga and pregnancy - Where and how?

Yoga in pregnancy can be done in your home (invest in a good dvd or maybe some computer software about yoga and pregnancy) or you could find a local class to attend. If you do intend to practice yoga at home, be sure that you find proper instructions for the poses and breathing techniques and follow them carefully, also ensure that you find poses that are safe to carry out during pregnancy.

A fantastic website that I have discovered has software that you can load onto your computer, showing you all of the pregnancy poses and the 'correct' way to do them, Including breathing techniques. Check out the website by clicking here.

Poses putting pressure on the abdomen or back should not been done in later pregnancy. Remember that although yoga includes a certain amount of stretching, 'Do Not' overstretch as this could be bad for you and your baby. Your ligaments are softer during pregnancy and they are more likely to be injured at this time.

All in all yoga seems to be a great exercise during pregnancy. Many women find it is great for postnatal exercise too and settle into yoga as a lifetime keep fit regime.
