Vaginal Tightening During Pregnancy

by Jasmine
(Houston)

I am 5 months pregnant, and when i walk my vagina gets this tightening feeling.

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Jasmine,

While you're pregnant all sorts of different things are going on inside your body.
The tightening you feel may just be caused by increased bloodflow to your vagina due to your pregnancy. HCG levels that alter with pregnancy can also cause the tightening feeling.

As our body starts to grow bigger with each passing month, things start to stretch to allow for the weight of the baby. You may also experience some of these symptoms:

Stretching of different muscles and ligaments in and around your stomach area. You can buy special belly belts and supports to help ease the pain and discomfort what this can cause.

Another complaint that many women experience during pregnancy is vaginal varicose veins or Vulval Varicosities. Just as women get varicose veins in their legs, a similar problem can occur in the vaginal area during pregnancy.

Just remember that if you experience any pain, bleeding or anything that worries you, then visit your doctor or midwife who can give you the proper medical attention that you may need.

Hope this helps.
Kind regards
Julie.

From What Week Can A First Pregnancy Give Birth?

by Maria
(Kansas City ks)

From how many weeks does first pregnancy women have their kids?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Maria

This is a very broad question.

Whether any pregnancy will carry full term depends on a multitude of factors. Are you in good health? Have you been to all doctors appointments? Did you eat healthily? Is your baby healthy? etc etc.

If everything is going well, and you are expected to carry your baby full term, then you can normally deliver any time after 37 weeks.

Hope this helps
Julie.

Weight Gain During Pregnancy

How many weeks are you when you start to gain weight?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi
Weight gain will normally start to occur towards the end of the first trimester and into the second trimester when your baby starts to grow.

Your baby plus fluid in your uterus, not to mention your uterus growing to support your baby, will add to the extra weight you carry during pregnancy.

You can take a look at this page and follow the links to different trimesters, and find out exactly how your baby will grow during pregnancy.
You, your baby and the three trimesters.

Kind regards
Julie

Im having difficulties when it comes to having sex while being pregnant. I 'm 22nd weeks at the moment, my due date is in February 2011. Is there a solution to my problem???

Sheila

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Sheila

What difficulties exactly are you having? You say in the title, 'painful intercourse' but you don't describe in what way? Where is the pain?

It might be best to get yourself checked out. You could visit your GP, or have a word with your midwife.

Kind regards
Julie

Folic Acid - Just Wondering!

Do I need to take folic acid pills and prenatal vitamins?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi,

You should be taking folic acid while you are pregnant, this will help to prevent neural tube defects, and other malformations. If you are not yet pregnant but plan to try for a baby, then you should start taking folic acid straight the way.
Please see these folic acid facts for more details.

There are certain vitamins and minerals that will need for a healthy pregnancy. It is important that you get enough iron as if you don't you may get anaemia. Vitamin C can help with your body's absorption of iron. You will also need calcium and vitamins A, D, B12. It's equally important not to take too much of any certain vitamin as this could have a harmful effect on your baby. Do seek professional advice on quantities to take.

Some chemists and pharmacies may sell a folic acid and vitamin supplement combined together, so it's well worth talking to your pharmacist or GP if you are worried that your vitamin and mineral intake isn't what it should be.

Hope this helps
Kind regards
Julie.

Pregnancy Foods

by Julli
(India)

Whether there is a food system for pregnancy?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Julli,

Your question is very vague and I cannot really tell whether you want to know if there is a food system to get pregnant or for pregnancy itself?

The best I can advise whether you are TTC or already pregnant is to eat sensibly. Plenty of fruit and vegetables will be good for your body, and if you are already pregnant it will be good for your baby too.

Please comment if you would like to tell me more about your question.

Regards
Julie.

Morning Sickness During Pregnancy

by Magan Collingwood
(Ashington )

Do you have to have morning sickness to be pregnant?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Magan,

All pregnancies are different, and not every woman will experience morning sickness during their pregnancy.

Experts are not really sure what causes morning sickness, but they believe it may be something to do with a rise in certain pregnancy hormones.
Different women experience different levels of these hormones, and this will affect them accordingly.

Don't forget that morning sickness can occur at any stage of pregnancy. From the very early months, to the last trimester. It can happen in bouts, or you may just suffer from it for a couple of days or weeks.
Some women may never experience morning sickness, while others will have it every single day of their pregnancy.

One more point to make is that morning sickness doesn't always occur in the morning. Many women will have it in the afternoon, and others at night.

You can read more about morning sickness here.

Hope this helps.

Bleeding while Pregnant

by Natalie
(Massachusetts)

Is it normal to have some bleeding at 36 weeks after sex?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Natalie,

Any bleeding in the second and third trimester should be reported to your doctor or midwife straight the way. It may not be serious, but there could also be an underlying reason as to why the bleeding is happening, so you really should get yourself checked out as soon as possible. If you can't contact your normal medical professional, then pop down to your local accident and emergency.

Depending on the type of bleeding, which you don't actually state, it could be something as simple as the mucus plug coming away from your cervix. This would a jelly like type of discharge which may be streaked with blood.

It could just be changes happening with your cervix. Or if the bleeding is bright red or heavy, it may point to placenta previa, or placental abruption, or it could be something totally different.

Don't risk waiting, get checked out as soon as you can.

Hope everything is ok, and please let me know how you get on.

Kind regards
Julie.

Hi,
You have given me very little details to base an answer on. From what I can gather you are 27 weeks pregnant? and maybe wondering whether your baby could be born this early.

I really would not have an answer for you, I do not know your personal circumstances. I don't know if you are having any problmes in your pregnancy, I also do not know the aspects of your daily life.

I am very sorry, but if you are worried in any way then do go and see your GP.

Kind regards
Julie.

Note

Could everyone please be aware that if you do have a genuine question, then you need to supply me with enough details for me try and answer.
The question above gives me no details at all, therefor I cannot supply an answer.

Belly form

by Jackie
(beaverton or)

So how do you know that its a boy or a girl from your belly??

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Jackie,

There is no way to tell from you belly whether you are expecting a boy or a girl, although there are plenty of 'old wives tales' methods if you're after a bit of fun.

The only way to really find out the sex of your baby is by an ultrasound scan, and sometimes even these can get it wrong!

For the old wives tales methods, take a look here.

Coffee in Pregnancy

by Abby
(Mandaluyong City, Philippines)

How bad is it to take coffee more often than milk?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Abby,

While you are pregnant you need to keep your caffeine intake down to 200mg a day. So if you're using instant coffee, that's about 2 cups. Brewed coffee from beans is only around 1 cup.
Some espresso's can have 300mg plus!

What you must also remember is that caffeine is also present in tea, green tea and lots of carbonated drinks such as cola and energy drinks.
It is also present in chocolate.

Check drink and food labels and try your best to keep caffeine under that 200mg mark daily.

Caffeine has been known to increase the risk of miscarriage, and can also cause low birth weight in babies. Too much caffeine can also stop you from absorbing the iron that you body needs at this time.

Drinking milk while you're pregnant helps you to get the calcium that you and baby will need. You don't however need to drink full fat milk, low fat or non fat milks are just as good.

Hope this helps
Julie
