Pregnancy And Fitness

Pregnancy and fitness don't always (but really should) go hand in hand. If you're fit and healthy during your pregnancy, there is more chance of your baby being fit and healthy throughout your pregnancy too.

To start - you have to accept the fact that your body will change shape, there's no way around this. It doesn't mean though that you can't be healthy too!

When you put the words pregnancy and fitness together, you don't have to see images of five mile runs, or lifting weights. Fitness during pregnancy can be achieved by many different ways, but you must remember that you are carrying a life inside and adjust your regime to suit your situation. If your exercise routine normally consists of running or working out at the gym, don't feel that you have to stop. Talk to your midwife and doctor and ask them if it's safe to carry on, and how you should modify your exercise plan to keep you and your baby safe.

Pregnancy and fitness - You're never to late to 'get healthy'

If you don't normally exercise then now might be a good time to start. Exercise not only keeps your heart and muscles in good shape. It can also help to relieve a lot of those horrible pregnancy side effects like, aching limbs and morning sickness. Exercise releases endorphins... the body's natural feel good tonic! It will also keep you in good shape for the impending birth. The fitter you are, the more likely you are to have an easier birth.

Health and fitness during pregnancy is not just about exercise. One of the main things to do during your pregnancy to stay fit, is to eat a healthy balanced diet. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as a good amount of carbohydrates to keep up your energy levels.

Fatty foods as well as not being good for you, won't give your baby all the nutrients he needs to grow!

One more thing towards having a healthy pregnancy - drink plenty of fluids, fruit juices and water are best. Try to limit your caffeine intake, and avoid alcohol altogether.
