Potty Training Resistance
Potty training resistance is quite simply a toddler who objects to learning to go to the toilet and get rid of the nappy! Not every toddler welcomes the chance to be free of the cumbersome diaper dragging him down, and will just refuse to potty train. The main idea with a toddler resistant to potty training is to try and relax. The more you stress, the more anxious he will become, and the less likely that he will get over this potty resistance stage. So here are a few tips to try and overcome this irritating but passable stage in your little ones life! - Relax and chill out. Don't show him that you are angry, frustrated or worried, you may just make him worse.
- Give potty training a miss for a few weeks, it may be that he's just not ready yet. After a few weeks try again, or you may find that he even asks about the potty himself.
- Ask your toddler to show you how he would potty train his favourite teddy or doll.
- Find some children's potty training books (there are some great ones out there) and look at them together, but don't force the issue, if he doesn't want to look at the books, put them aside for a while.
- Get him into a play group where other toddlers are potty training too. It's amazing how young children want to copy things that other kids are doing!
