PGD Gender Selection
PGD and PGD gender selection or also known by it's full name of Preimplantataion genetic diagnosis is a medical procedure that can help some couples with the problem of gender selection. Although considered as un-ethical in many countries, and only used for detecting true genetic disorders, PGD gender selection is the only form of medical sex selection that can guarantee its results 100%. Unfortunately this method of gender selection is highly expensive and has to be used in conjunction with IVF. As always with IVF this does not guarantee a pregnancy, and your actual chance of becoming pregnant once the embryo is implanted is only around 35% - 40%.
The process of PGD
Using a normal IVF monthly cycle, the Mother to be will have her viable eggs collected and then fertilized with the fathers sperm.Embryo's are then incubated until they reach around 10 cells. Using a very powerful microscope, the technician will remove one single cell from each embryo using a tiny hollow glass needle. These cells are then tested for genetic disease, abnormalities, and whether it is a girl or a boy. This method of testing should be 100% accurate. A healthy embryo, along with the correct gender will then be implanted into the mother. This may or may not result in pregnancy. Weighing up the pro's and cons Couples wishing to have PGD to achieve a baby of a certain gender have a lot to weigh up. The expense to start, PGD gender selection is one of the highest priced sex selection methods available (not surprising with it's 100% accuracy rate) This process may not even be available in your country of residence, which could also mean costly travel arrangements. There is no guarantee of actual pregnancy So would you be willing to spend a small fortune and have nothing to show at the end. You may have to repeat the process more than once. Along with the IVF cycle, the process is emotionally challenging and very invasive. PGD may not be for everyone, but for some couples it could be a dream come true. why not take a look at
