Menstrual Cycles

by Cathy
(Alberta, Canada)

I have a 31 day cycle. I was wondering, is that normal? Why is it everywhere i read "normal" is 28 days?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Cathy,

Your 31 day menstrual cycle may be normal for you, when people talk about a 28 cycle, this is just an average.

I don't know many women who have an exact 28 day cycle, some are longer and some or shorter. Some womens menstrual cycles vary, so maybe one month it will be 22 days, another month it could be 28 days or even 32 days.

So please don't worry, there is no 'normal' only 'average'

Hope this helps.

Kind regards
Julie.

Pregnancy Test
by: Anonymous

I was wondering do your pregnancy comes up negative or do not show up if your pregnant?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

I'm not quite sure what you mean. But if you mean along the lines of taking an early pregnancy test before your period is due, then it depends on the pregnancy testing kit that you use. Some pregnancy tests are made to work a few days before your period is due, some others don't work until after your period is due.

Depending on which kit you use, if you are pregnant it should show a positive result. If it doesn't then wait a few days and try another test. If the tests are showing a negative result but you believe otherwise, then you could always go to your doctor or health clinic where they will do a test for you, and you can then discuss the result with the health professional.

Hope this helps.

Julie.
