IVF Egg Donor Programs

There are IVF egg donor programs available to women who have had trouble conceiving naturally. Normally these women will have problems getting pregnant with IVF, and this is where the egg donor-IVF scheme comes into play.

Availability of donor eggs here in the UK has been short, so clinics have come up with an idea to help women out.

If you want IVF but can't afford it, think about donating your unused or left over eggs. If you donate some of your own eggs, to another women whose eggs are poor quality, or if she can't produce her own eggs. Then some clinics will do your IVF for around half the price of a normal IVF cycle of treatment.

Each clinic has it's own terms conditions, and waiting list times. So you should check with the clinic about all of these details. Some clinics will also allow you to recruit your own egg donor, which could be a friend or family member. Some clinics will also put you to the top of the waiting list, if your egg donor donates her eggs to the clinic rather than to you.

If you are going to use donated eggs in your IVF treatment, then there will be procedures in place to make sure that the donor eggs for IVF are right for you. This will take place through tests being carried out on the donor to make sure that blood groups and blood sugar levels are the same as yours.

You will both have several tests to make sure that you are fit and healthy enough to go through the donor/recipient scheme.

If you have been matched up with an egg donor, then you will both start medical treatments to make your cycles run at the same time. You will then be given medication to thicken up the lining in your uterus, and your donor will be given medication to encourage her egg production. The rest of the process is then down to the egg being fertilized, and the embryo being placed into your uterus.

While being an egg donor drastically reduces the cost of your IVF treatment. If you are the recipient of an egg donor scheme, you should know that your treatment will be priced significantly higher.

You may be offered counselling, to help you with the legal, emotional and physical conditions that you may experience with IVF egg donor programs.

You should also remember that IVF egg donor programs are in no way 100% successful.
