Infertility Vitamin - Myth Or Magic

For some reason, some women are ranting about an infertility vitamin that can cure all your problems, and help you to get pregnant! Is it true? - In a word, 'No'.

There are vitamins out there that you can take to help get your body into tip-top condition, ready for conception. Vitamins that can help to regulate your menstrual cycle, even vitamins that will boost sperm production and motility, but a cure for infertility... unfortunately not! (if only it were that easy)

So when you hear talk of the magic vitamins to help you conceive, it's not quite what you think it is.

Vitamin B6 and infertility

Vitamin b6 is helpful in correcting problems with the luteal phase of your menstrual cycle. The luteal phase are the days after ovulation and before your period starts. If the luteal phase is too short, you may struggle to sustain your pregnancy.

Infertility vitamins - which others can help?

There is not just one helpful vitamin but quite a few can help in the process of maintaining a healthy body that is ready for pregnancy.

  • Vitamin A. This has high antioxidant properties, and has shown to increase fertility level of both partners. Men are sometimes given this if their partners are undergoing IVF treatment as it is believed to increase the fertility of sperm.

  • Vitamin C. Also an antioxidant, is said to improve the motility of sperm. It also protects the sperm and prevents damage. Damaged sperm can cause birth defects, or early miscarriage.

  • Essential fatty acids. This is said to benefit every aspect of the body, including the reproductive organs.

  • Zinc, is said to efficiently utilize the body's reproductive hormones. Improving fertility and reducing the risk of miscarriage.

  • Folic acid. This works to prevent spinal tube defects among unborn babies. Spina bifida can be a high risk if the mother is low in folic acid.

Other vitamins that are said to play a beneficial role for both men and women are: L-Arginine, L-Carnitine These are said to help with quality and motility of sperm. Selenium protects your body from free radicals, and helps to prevent chromosone damage. In turn helping to prevent miscarriage and birth defects.

So there you go, not just one vitamin, but several vitamins all said to aid with conception and pregnancy. Do (as always) check with your doctor first, before starting any new course of vitamins.
