Getting anxious at the thought of giving birth to your baby? Well hypno birthing might be just for you.

This seems to be a new approach to giving birth here in the UK, but it certainly seems to be taking the birthing world by storm.

The idea with having a hypno birth is that you are taught how to have a totally natural childbirth, with very little (or for some Moms) no pain at all.

Hypnobirthing and a womans fear of childbirth

Marie Mongan is the founder of hypnobirthing, and she states that the uterus muscles don't perform as they should, for the simple reason that culture has over the years, instilled into women a fear of childbirth. This is not due to the physical aspect of childbirth though, more to the fact of what could go wrong, during and after. When a women is fearful, she will will tense up, and once that happens she is more likely to experience pain.

Hypno birthing is based on the grounds that the female body is beyond a doubt, perfectly designed to go through labor and bring a baby into the world without experiencing the pain associated with childbirth.

Hypno birthing will prepare your body and mind to allow your uterus to function just like every other muscle in your body - without pain.

Hypnobirthing techniques

Hypnobirthing consists of learning techniques that can be used not only for childbirth, but in other aspects of your life too. You will learn how to reach a state of deep relaxation using self hypnosis and breathing techniques. You will learn how to tune into your body and work with your body during labor, not against it. This in turn will help to relieve the fear and tension that labor and childbirth cause. Allowing the Mother to have a calm and relaxed birth without the need of chemical drugs.

Having a hypno birth also allows the father to be involved to a greater extent than normal. Because the Mother will focus all of her attention on her body and the birth of her baby. The father will take care of liasing with the midwife and doctor, and overseeing everything else.

Hypnobirthing - The choices

Choices are fairly simple, you could opt for classes, a book, or a self hypnosis CD. From what I have read by other people The classes are by far the best choice, although a 2 day course won't be cheap.

CD's and books can be purchased through a number of outlets at varying prices. You can also download mp3 versions of the hypnosis CD's to put on your I pod or personal music player.

A less expensive mp3 download can be purchased from here, hypnosis downloads. This is a quick and easy download that doesn't cost a fortune.

I found my labor and childbirth extremely painful, and can only wish that I knew about hypnobirthing when I was first to be a Mum. With a lot more various methods becoming available as time goes on, it certainly is worth finding out more about the different ways to give birth to your baby.
