The X bearing sperm are larger and slower than their male counterparts, but they have one advantage... They live longer than the Y bearing male sperm. Timing is crucial, and you really need to know when you will ovulate. The theory behind conceiving a girl is that you should have sex right up until 2 to 4 days before ovulation and then not again until 3 days after ovulation (and then with a condom, just in case!) The idea behind the timing is that the boy sperm will have died off well before you ovulate. The girl sperm, swimming along steadily behind, will reach the fallopian tubes around the time of ovulation giving them the chance to fertilise the egg.
