household cleaning

by Melissa
(chicago illinois)

Is it bad to drink soda pop ex. Rc cola dr.pepper??? Can it hurt my baby or effect him?? I'm exactly 5 months pregnant...I am 17 years old and its my first time being pregnant... and is cleaning the house bad for the baby??? I like to clean a lot but my boyfriend gets mad at the fact I'm pregnant and cleaning.

Hi Melissa,

Firstly drinking vast amounts of soda pops, Cola, Dr pepper, 7-up etc isn't good for anyone, pregnant or not. Having a small glass a day though should be OK.
Just be careful as drinking a lot of fizzy stuff could cause heartburn, or an upset stomach. especially when your baby gets bigger and starts to push your stomach upwards!

Caffeine should be avoided as much as possible during pregnancy, so don't overdo it with the tea or coffee. And check the lables of fizzy drinks as some do have a high caffeine level.

Household cleaning should be fine, so long as you don't use any dangerous cleaning products. Cleaning the oven for example you should probably get your boyfriend to do as the cleaning substance can be harmful.

The actual cleaning part will be OK, so long as you take your time, and don't do too much stretching or reaching. Lifting should only be done as a last resort, if anything heavy needs lifting the get someone to do it for you.

A lot of women as they draw near to the end of their pregnancy get something called 'The nesting instinct' This is where they want to clean and get everything just ready for when the baby comes along. Once again this is OK, so long as you don't over do it!

Hope all goes well for you Melissa
Very best wishes,
Julie
