Fibroids And Pregnancy

When women talk about about fibroids and pregnancy, it's normal because there's a struggle going on to achieve pregnancy.

Older women, past the age of 35 years are more likely to suffer from fibroids than younger women. Women below the age of 20 rarely suffer from this complaint at all.

Fibroids and pregnancy - What are they?

Fibroids are benign tumours which grow in the uterus. Benign means that these tumours are not cancerous.

They are basically made up of muscle fibre and can be any size. some as small as a pea, others may be as big as a melon. Between 25-50% of women may have fibroids at some stage in their lives, but it is believed that when you reach menopause they are likely to shrink.

Fibroids and pregnancy - Can I still have a baby?

Fibroids will cause problems for only a small percentage of women trying to get pregnant. The different types of fibroids can cause different problems that may affect fertility for around 3% of women trying to conceive.

  • Subserosal Fibroids - These develop on the outer wall of the uterus and can grow quite large. They can compress the fallopian tubes. This can block the sperm and eggs passage along the tubes.

  • Submucous Fibroids - These grow under the inner lining (in the muscle) of the uterus and can block the fallopian tubes. This type of fibroid grows on a stalk, so it can also grow into the uterus and hang down through the cervix, preventing sperm from entering into the uterus.

  • Intramural Fibroids grow on the wall of the uterus, they may be near to the cervix, again stopping the passage of sperm into the uterus.

Fibroids and pregnancy - What can I do if I can't conceive?

If you are one of the very few women that are struggling with fertility because of fibroids, you should see your Doctor and discuss this matter with him.

Other ways that women are dealing with fibroids are ancient Chinese herbal medicines and other forms of alternative therapies.

Shola Oslo One form of fibroid help available is by Shola Oslo, a kinesiologist. Shola specialises in female alternative health, and the endocrine system, which governs the production of hormones, affecting fertility, weight, and other conditions that affect women such as uterine fibroids.

Shola explains how to aid reduction of fibroids, helping with all the symptoms that go hand in hand with this problem. In turn this can help you to conceive the baby that you're longing for!
