Early Pregnancy Symptoms? - So You Think You're Pregnant?

pregnancy test

So you think you might be pregnant? There are a few of the early pregnancy symptoms you could be feeling right now!

When I was first pregnant with Joe, strange things happened - about 21 days after my last menstrual period (LMP) I thought I had got my next period a week early. I bled, but it was more like spotting and only lasted 24 hours. Still I assumed it was just a very light period and went on as normal. I marked down when my next period was due (as some of us do in our diaries) as 4 weeks later.

After another week or so, it was a Sunday morning. I love my Mums Sunday roast, but that day, the smell of it cooking made me feel sick! The bile rose in my throat and I had a hard time keep it down.

The following week I just felt so tired, and I was pretty convinced that I was coming down with a virus or bug. I had this strange metallic taste in my mouth that I just couldn't get rid of no matter how many times I brushed my teeth! I just didn't feel right - this was some awful bug that I'd picked up.

Then another week later, every time I blew my nose, (which felt really stuffy) I would get a nose bleed.

Then I was late for my period (the one that was never really due!) Things finally started to click into place. Because I had been trying to get pregnant for 3 years with no luck, I hadn't even given these pregnancy signs a second thought!

Do you recognise any of these early pregnancy symptoms?

Here are a few early pregnancy symptoms, there be more that I haven't mentioned, but have a think and see if you remember any of these happening to you recently?

  • Bleeding or spotting maybe a week or so before your period is due.

  • Nose bleeds.

  • Feeling sick for no reason.

  • You may get headaches.

  • Tiredness and fatigue.

  • Dizziness and fainting.

  • Strange tastes in your mouth.

  • Cravings for certain foods.

  • Frequent need to use the loo (urination)

  • Breasts feeling tender or even painful.

  • Period pain feelings or cramps, that never give way to you starting your period.

  • Mood swings (one minute up, the next down)

All this could also indicate other things as well as pregnancy signs, but one more thing... some women claim to just get the feeling that 'they know'!

So if you want to know for definite that these feelings are what you think they are, there's only one thing left to do... take the test! Some pregnancy tests can be taken before your period is even due, some of the more expensive tests will actually tell you the word 'pregnant' and others can even tell you how far along you are! They work by measuring certain hormones in your body. The best time to take a test is first thing in the morning. Although I have taken them in the afternoon, and got a correct reading from them.
