Early period or implantation bleeding

Hi Julie,
My fiancé and I have been ttc for 14 months now, and have recently been told he has a low sperm count and that we may need fertility help in the future.
Since then, we have been trying to put it to the back of our minds. However, I'm not sure if I'm currently experiencing implantation bleeding. My periods have always been extremely regular since the age of 12, with a 28 day cycle (I'm 27 now)
On Thur 01/04/10, I had a tiny bit of bloody CM when I wiped after going to the toilet. This was a week after ovulation, and a week before my period was due. Then nothing for the next two days.
Then today 04/04/10, I noticed a smear of brown blood when I wiped. I am still not due for four days, so it seems odd. My breasts feel slightly achey, but I also get this before my period. But I have had no cramps at all and no leg numbness, which always accompanies my heavy, five day periods.
I don't want to get my hopes up, but do you think this could possible be implantation bleeding, or just beginning my period early?
Thanks for your advice!
Reply from Julie - New Baby & Beyond Hi Laura,
The problem with bleeding before your period is due, is that it could always be something other than implantation bleeding. Bleeding can occur for many other reasons, stress, infection, just an early period... there really is no way to tell. So getting your hopes up at this stage really isn't advisable, although I know it's hard not too.
Your bleeding certainly does fit the symptoms of implantation bleeding, but the only way to really tell is to take a test. There are pregnancy tests out there nowadays that you can use before your period is due (although you may find they are a little more expensive than the rest) Here in the UK, Clearblue pregnancy tests can be used up to 4 days before your period is due - Click the link to go to the
Clearblue website and learn more about early testing. Please be aware though that you will get the most accurate results after your period is due. If you do take an early test and it gives a negative result and you still miss your period, try another test.
Laura I wish the best of luck and will definitely be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Kind regards
Julie.
