TTC a Baby

by Lara
(Doncaster)

Would it make it harder for me to get pregnant by having sex every night?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hello Lara

It wouldn't make it harder for you to get pregnant by having sex every night, although when you're TTC a baby you don't need to have sex every night.

Do you know when you will ovulate? If you do that would make life a whole lot easier for you. You could have sex maybe 4 days before ovulation, then a couple of days before ovulation and then again on the day of ovulation. Some couple have sex for the 3 days leading up to ovulataion.

You can learn more about ovulation and the best getting pregnant tips here.

Sperm can live for up to 5 days, and some experts believe that having sex every day can lead to lower sperm numbers. Having sex every other day will allow sperm to replenish. This may just be an old wives tale though as men will constantly produce sperm right from puberty, along with quantity though there has to be a good quality!

Having sex every day is really your choice, for most couples having sex this frequently would get a little boring, so every other day would suffice. It really is down to your very own personal choice.

Hope this helps Lara

Kind regards
Julie

Trying to get pregnant

Why, after me and my husband have intercourse, does the sperm comes back out?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi,

Don't worry about sperm escaping! Millions of sperm are produced every time your husband ejaculates, so don't worry about some coming back out. There will still be enough left inside to make that magical journey to the egg!

Kind regards

Julie.

Am i pregnant?

by Mrs. Sriram
(Singapore)

Hi
My last period was on March 29,2010. My menstrual period is a regular 28days cycle. I'm now in the expectation of becoming pregnant since I dint get next period till April 30,2010. Is this the time to check with pregnancy kit? or have to wait for some more days? I have no signs of implantation bleeding. I didn't find any changes in the body conditions also. Please suggest me the next move. Thank you

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Mrs Sriram

I'm not sure whether you mean that you got your next period on 30th April? Or whether you mean that you still haven't got your period yet?

If you still haven't got your period, and it is normally a 28 day cycle, then your period should have been due on April 26, this makes you around 4 days late. I would go ahead and take a pregnancy test, really this should always be seen as the best step to confirm pregnancy.

Not all women will experience implantation bleeding, not all women will see changes to their body this early in pregnancy. For some women hormone changes have to be much more pronounced before they will experience any symptoms of pregnancy.

Most pregnancy tests are made to work on the first day of the missed period, some can even detect pregnancy before a period is missed. So go get a test... and good luck :)

Kind regards
Julie.

Sperm & Getting Pregnant

by Alice
(Nigeria)

Is it normal for a man's sperm to pour out immediately after sex from the woman that is trying to get pregnant?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Alice,

It is normal for the sperm to come back down. If you want to try and overcome this then after you have had sex with your partner, you could try putting a pillow under your bottom (to raise your hips) and stay like this for 20 minutes to half an hour.

Some experts believe that this will allow the sperm time to enter the cervix and into the uterus.

Do remember each time that your partner ejaculates, millions of sperm are released, so even though some do come back out, there are enough left to fertilise a waiting egg.

Hope this helps
Julie.

Folic Acid

I am wondering the period when a pregnant woman should stop taking folic acid?

Reply from New Baby and Beyond

Folic acid is recommended for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, experts then say that enough folic acid may be gained through certain foods, such as leafy green vegetables.

Some women also take a vitamin supplement especially for use during pregnancy, some of these will contain folic acid.

It won't do any harm to continue with folic acid throughout the whole pregnancy, but folic acid should be taken 3 to 6 months before pregnancy, then at least for 12 weeks during pregnancy.

Hope this helps

Vaginal PH Level

by Aisha
(Islamabad, Pakistan)

How I can check my pH level ?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Aisha

The normal vaginal PH level is 3.8 to 4.5, which is slightly acidic.

If your PH level is different to this it could indicate an infection and may be worth getting yourself checked out.

You can easily test your vaginal PH level with PH testing strips. Dip the strip slightly into the vagina and check the colour against the chart to find the correct PH level.

Hope this helps

Missed Period

I haven't had a period in 5 almost 6 months. I have taken many home pregnancy test. I have almost all of the pregnancy symptoms. Without seeing a doctor, what is the best way to determine if I am pregnant or not?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi,

Firstly you do not mention your age, whether you were trying to get pregnant or any other details, so I will answer to the best of my ability with the small amount of information that you have provided.

Pregnancy tests, although not always accurate in the first month or so, will normally pick up the pregnancy hormones by the second trimester.

Unfortunately there are a lot of reasons why you may be missing regular periods. A missed period does not always signify pregnancy, you may have a hormone imbalance, you may be suffering from PCOS, there could be many, many reasons.

Why do you not want to visit a doctor? I would advise that you do visit your doctor or medical professional who may do a test and put your mind at rest. If you are not pregnant, then you really should find out the reason for this. On the other hand if your home pregnancy tests are showing a false negative and you are pregnant, you should by now be under the care of a doctor or midwife.

I would seriously suggest a visit to your doctor.

Kind regards
Julie

How Soon Can You Get Pregnant After Having A Baby?

Can you get pregnant very quickly after you just had a baby?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

You can get pregnant again very quickly after giving birth. Breastfeeding can act as a contraception, but only if you are breastfeeding at regular intervals during the day and night (not missing any feeds out) and if you have no menstrual periods.

If you are not breastfeeding, or you are bottle/breastfeeding mixed, Your period could return as soon as 5 weeks after the birth, or it may be longer. What you must realise is that ovulation usually occurs around two weeks before your period is due and so you will have no knowledge that you are fertile in those 2 weeks before your period returns.

I don't know whether you want to get pregnant as soon as your baby is born, or whether you want to avoid pregnancy, but if you're trying to avoid pregnancy then look for a suitable contraception to use at this time.

If you are trying to get pregnant, then I wish you lots of luck.

Kind regards
Julie.

Month Of Conception

by Kavya Surendren
(India)

What does month of conception mean? is it the last month I had my periods?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hello Kavya

Month of conception means the month in which you conceive. Women normally ovulate 14 days before their period starts, this is when you can conceive. So it really depends on how regular and long your menstrual cycle is. If it is an average 28 day cycle, you would more than likely ovulate around day 14, and conception would take place around this time.

So for example if your last period was August 10th, you would likely conceive around August 24th and your month of conception would be August. But if your Last period was August 25th, you would likely conceive around 7th September so your actual month of conception would be September.

It can be a little confusing, and you can only really know this information if you know when you ovulate. If your cycle is irregular or longer/shorter than 28 days, this can complicate things a little.

Hope this helps

When can I Conceive?

by Alison Williams
(Manchester )

When is the best day to start having sex to make a baby. I have been trying for three years.

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Alison

The only time that you can conceive is when you ovulate. So start having sex a couple of days before you ovulate, and then again on the day of ovulation.

There are several ways of learning to predict ovulation, including things that you can keep track of, changes within your body, and ovulation strips that measure hormones in your body.

Try reading these pages to learn about ovulation:

Menstrual Cycles

by Cathy
(Alberta, Canada)

I have a 31 day cycle. I was wondering, is that normal? Why is it everywhere i read "normal" is 28 days?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Cathy,

Your 31 day menstrual cycle may be normal for you, when people talk about a 28 cycle, this is just an average.

I don't know many women who have an exact 28 day cycle, some are longer and some or shorter. Some womens menstrual cycles vary, so maybe one month it will be 22 days, another month it could be 28 days or even 32 days.

So please don't worry, there is no 'normal' only 'average'

Hope this helps.

Kind regards
Julie.

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Mahi

Folic acid will not improve your chances of getting pregnant, but if you are trying to get pregnant then you really should be taking folic acid as it helps to prevent neural tube defects. Read more about folic acid here.

Help - Early Period

by sherina
(san diego ca )

What does it mean when you have a three day period before your regular period, and its a normal flow, just short ?

Reply from Julie - New Baby & Beyond

Hello Sherina,

How early was this period? If you think that it may be implantation bleeding then normally this happens around 10 days to a week before your period is due. Implantation bleeding is normally just spotting or very light, it could last for around 3 days, but every woman is different.
When I had implantation bleeding with my daughter it only lasted for around 24 hours, it started very light and turned to just spotting. This happened a week before my period was due.

What we have to remember is that your period can come early for many reasons. Stress, changing your lifestyle, infection, or a number of other reasons.

If you think that you may be pregnant, it's worth waiting a week or so, so hormones can build up in your body, and then taking a test. Or you could work out when your next period would be due, and just wait and see if it happens.

Hope this helps a little, please reply with a comment if I can help further.

Kind regards
Julie.

Can You Get Pregnant With The IUD?

by sandra
(california)

My question is, can you get pregnant with the IUD fitted?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi,

There is a slight chance that you could still get pregnant with the IUD fitted.
The success rate of the IUD is 98%, roughly the same as the pill.

This means that if 100 women were to use an IUD as birth control for a year, 2 of those women would possibly end up pregnant at some stage in that year.

Hope this helps.

Question about Implantation

by Anusha
(Mauritius)

If I have a 22 day cycle for menstruation and I was on Serophene 1st round. Then I was 3 days late of my period. I was supposed to menstruate on the 9 Aug 2010 and I am having same symptoms like sore and achy breasts and today 12 Aug I am spotting n a little more , a light pelvic cramp. Is it I am pregnant?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Anusha,

I understand your anxiety about this situation, You are taking Serophene, is this from your doctor? I would imagine that if your doctor has prescribed this drug, then you should have a follow up appointment with him? You would be far better to talk to your doctor.

It's always hard for me when women ask me, Could I be pregnant, or Is this implantation bleeding. I would have to say that implantation bleeding normally happens before your period is due and not after.

Your serophene medication could alter your period, and symptoms normally associated with your period. Although I could be wrong, I would think that spotting after your period is due, may be your period about to appear.

Do check with your doctor, or do a pregnancy test to be sure.

Kind regards and good luck in the future

When did I conceive?

by Amy
(Blackpool)

When am I most likely to conceive in the month? I'm pregnant & it would be nice to know when I most likely conceived in the month? My due date is 06/07/10 & my last period was towards the end of September 09?

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Amy,

Firstly congratulations on your pregnancy. OK to try and determine when you most likely conceived, I would need to know how long your monthly cycle normally is? On an average 28 day cycle, the woman would normally ovulate around day 14.

The fact is though that all women are different, some women may ovulate day 12 or earlier, some may ovulate day 16 or later, so everyone is different.

At a rough guess though, if your last period was around the end of September 09, then you would have most likely ovulated and conceived around the first or second week of October.

Hope this helps a little.

Very best of luck in your pregnancy,
Julie.

Could I Be Pregnant?

by Ashleey
(Scotland)

Hi, I'm 18 and I had 'you know' with my boyfriend 2 weeks ago. A couple days after it, I had a little bleeding about 3-4 days after it. It was like spotting and lasted 3 days. I have been having pains in my lower abdomen and little light back pain but not much, breast are little tender, feeling sick but not being sick, headaches and going to toilet well more than usual.

So just wondering if you would be able to tell me. Oh I have just started getting these symptoms end of last week and start of this week.
THANK YOU.

Reply from New Baby & Beyond

Hi Ashley

Your symptoms certainly sound like pregnancy symptoms, but these could also be related to a lot of other things too.

Implantation bleeding normally occurs around a week to a few days before your period is due.

Nobody can tell you whether you are pregnant or not, especially from an email. So wait for the date that your period should start, and if it doesn't, then buy a pregnancy test and take it. That way you will know for sure.

Hope this helps
Julie.
