Baby Teething
Products & Remedies

There are so many different sorts of baby teething products to try, it would be impossible to mention them all. Try a few, and see which soothes your baby the most. You will normally find one brand that works, and you will then stick to that.

Baby teething gel

  • When my babies were teething, I used Calpol in extreme cases of pain, but apart from then I tried to keep medicines to a minimal. I do like teething gels, some brands will often work better than others. I found Bonjella a great gel, you can only apply it every 3 or 4 hours, so be careful you don't get carried away and apply it too often.Calgel was another good one, this seemed to work better for my daughter than it did for my son. Always read instructions carefully.

Baby teething remedy - Chew chew chew!

  • Put a damp flannel wrapped in a bag, into the freezer, and then remove from the bag and let your baby chew on that. My son used to like this. Make sure the flannel is only lightly damp and not wet. You don't want to give your baby a flannel that is full of ice!

  • Baby teething biscuits, these can be purchased from places like Boots or some supermarkets. Baby will love these! Always stay with your baby while he is eating, a baby can choke easily.

  • Baby teething products also include teething rings and chewing toys. Chewing can help to break down the gum in order for the tooth to emerge. Liquid filled teething rings can be placed in the fridge (not the freezer) to cool first.

Baby teething remedy - The alternative

  • There are quite a few alternative remedies available for a teething baby too. Ashton's teething powders can be given dry on the tongue, and are also supposed to combat dodgy tummies that originate from teething.

  • Homoeopathic remedies. You should consult a qualified homoeopath before giving your baby anything you are unsure of. Homoeopathic remedies contain very diluted versions of herbs etc, and if administered as advised are normally very safe.

Most teething remedies are a matter of personal opinion and preference. Experiment with different approaches to relieve teething pain, but always be sure to read the age guidelines for different products.
