Baby Gender Prediction

baby gender prediction

Baby gender prediction can be a great fun way of trying to determine your baby's sex. There are only a couple of ways that will give you fairly accurate results, the rest are just old wives tales about pregnancy and the way to predict if you're having a boy or a girl.

Baby gender prediction - The accurate methods

The first method of gender prediction is the ultrasound scan. This is normally done at around 18-22 weeks of pregnancy and can be fairly accurate, if the sonographer gets a good view.

The next method is by amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (CVS). This method is not normally used to just to predict the sex of your baby, but is done for other reasons.

Baby gender prediction - The old wives tales

The first things to remember about these sort of gender predictions is that it isn't accurate! I tried quite a few different methods and got different answers every time. It is good for a laugh though, so keep an open mind and have fun!

  • The ring. This is a great one, take your wedding ring (if you have one) and tie it to a thread about 12 inches long. Hold the ring by the thread over your belly. If the ring goes in circles (round and round) you're having a boy, if it swings side to side, then it's a girl.

  • Baby's heartbeat. Supposedly a girls heartbeat is higher than a boys. A girls heart rate will be about 140 beats per minute, a boys will be below.

  • Your breasts. If your left breast is larger than the right, it's a girl. Other way round, a boy!

  • The key. If you pick up a key, look and see how you picked it up. If you picked up by the thin end, it's a girl, thicker end... a boy. If you picked it up in the middle, better sit down for this one! It's twins!

  • Carrying position. This is a baby gender prediction that lots of people will recite to you. If you're carrying your baby high in your tummy it's a girl, lower down then it's a boy.

  • Cravings. Are you craving sweets and chocolate, anything sweet? It's a girl. Sour cravings? Lemons, limes, then it's a boy!

  • The pendant. Take a pendant, hold it over your hand. Swinging back and forth indicates a boy. Round in circles... You guessed it, a girl!

  • Acne. Some people say if you're suffering from acne, you're carrying a girl!

  • Putting on weight? Not you - your partner! If he puts on weight it's a girl. If he doesn't, it's a boy.

  • Face shape. Last but not least in the baby gender prediction hall of fame. If your face gets all rosey and round during pregnancy, then it's a girl!

  • Last but by no means least, the Chinese method! Try the Chinese calender for gender. With a few simple calculations, it should tell you pink or blue!

It certainly makes you wonder where all of these old wives tales gender predictions came from! Remember they are good fun to try, but definitely not accurate. Try them and see what the outcome is at the birth of your baby. Were they wrong, or right? You can contact me with your results on the 'contact me' tab at the side of this page, and I will display them on this page.
