Baby Development Milestone - Month 7 - 9

Wow, how time flies. The next baby development milestone months will go even quicker, as you discover lots of new things that you and your baby can do together.

Baby development milestone - month 7

Weaning your baby will fun now, she's over the hard part of getting her to try new flavours and textures, as she's starting to understand there's some fab tasting foods out there.

Start to introduce finger foods if you haven't already. This helps with hand to eye co-ordination too as she tries to get that crust into her mouth. Always stay with your baby while she is eating, just in case she ever gets anything stuck in her throat and starts to choke. Finger foods should be things that will easily soften in her mouth, no raw vegetables or fruits yet as she can't chew them.

She is still trying to mimmick sounds that she can hear, and you may start to notice that she is improving!

As well as turning towards a voice when someone speaks to her, she may now be able to distinguish 'who' it is that's talking to her.

She will love fun games like peek-a-boo, and blowing raspberries will be a great source of enjoyment for her (not for you though if she has a mouthful of mashed carrot!)

Baby development milestone - month 8

Your baby may now be reaching for the spoon as you try to feed her, feeding times will likely become more messy. She will also turn her head away from you and the spoon when she has had enough.

Throwing the bowl off the high chair table was a favourite with my little girl when she had eaten her fill!As she is now learning that it's fun to drop things, it may be a good idea to place a plastic sheet under the high chair.

You baby may now be sleeping 11 - 13 hours during the night, with 2 to 3 naps during the day.

She may know her own name, and respond to it when you call her. You may notice your baby get anxious when you leave the room. After all, how does she know that you will come back! (she will learn in time that you will return!)

Your baby can now roll all the way over from tummy, to back and then back over to tummy. She can maybe sit without pillows propping her, and she will learn to use her arms for extra balance. If not already, soon your baby will learn to get into the crawl position, now this is where the fun really starts!

Baby development milestone - month 9

Your baby will now reach for a toy, grasp it, drop it, and then look for it again.

Her fine motor skills are getting better now, you may notice her picking up tiny objects like a pea or a small button. This is where you have to have eyes like a hawk. Now baby can find a small object and pick it up, majority of the time it will find it's way into her mouth.

She will be able to get from her tummy to sitting position and back down again, and if she isn't crawling already then she soon will.

Home safety and baby proofing should ideally be all complete, if its not then you really need to get round to it. Baby will just love banging doors, opening cupboards and tugging on anything that's hanging down. Don't leave the baby proofing to chance and think that a sharp 'no' will discourage your baby. This often isn't the case.

A new fun thing to do is letting baby look in a mirror. You will laugh as she won't realise that she is looking at herself, but will think that a new baby has found its way into her life!

Lets take a look at the final 3 months up to the first birthday.
