Baby Development Milestone - Months 4 - 6

During this baby development milestone things will become more noticeable. Your baby's new experiments will come in leaps and bounds.

Baby milestone Month 4

Your little one will now be sleeping from 14 - 17 hours a day, including night time sleep and naps. So still lots of free time for mum to nap or take a nice relaxing bubble bath.

She might be rolling over by now from tummy to back, although some babies will take a little more time to do this.

She will still love playing with her hands, and now she knows how to use them, she may use them to put things in her mouth (so keep an eye on what she can grab hold of!) She may now have a preference to which toys she likes... she's starting to form an opinion!

During this baby development milestone you may notice your baby's tailored cry for certain situations. By now she's trying to give you different cries for different reasons (although this is hard to notice, and I never quite sussed it with my two!) One cry for a wet nappy, another for a hungry tum and so on.

Her legs are continually getting stronger, and it will do her no harm for you to hold her upright and let her rest on her legs. You will notice how she likes to bounce, but be careful as this can be very tiring for her.

Baby milestone Month 5

Your baby may now be able to hold her steady while standing with your support. She is now noticing that she has feet! Video camera's to the ready for this baby development milestone! And she will love to play those feet and toe games. Try doing 'This little piggy goes to market' with her toes, and see if you can get her to laugh. She may be able to push herself around the floor with her feet as she becomes more mobile.(Experts recommend not using a baby walker, these can be dangerous, and also now they are linked to hindering development n your baby)

If baby is rolling over all by herself now, be careful of placing her on the bed, sofa or changing table and turning your back. It only takes a second, and babies tend to be very quick when you're not looking!!!

Many parents will now be thinking of weaning their baby. Do try and leave it for a while. I weaned my son when he was 4 months and it was hard. He really wasn't that interested and it didn't improve his eating habits at all. I weaned my daughter when she was 6 months old, and it was so much easier than with my son. She was more willing to try new foods, and she took to the whole process alot easier.

Your bay will still be trying to mimmick all facial expressions and sounds that go on around her. Her eyesight is now drastically improved, and she will enjoy taking in the sites around her.

She may be sorting toys by now, the ones she likes, and doesn't like! She will also enjoy playing with bricks, but don't expect her to build a house or castle just yet ;-)

Baby milestone Month 6

Your baby is really developing her talents now. The baby development milestones for this month may be:

Sitting up alone, or propped up by some pillows and cushions. Always stay with your baby until she has mastered this technique. It's easy for her to fall into the cushions, or slump forward.

She may now be able to pick up several objects or toys, and will reach to grasp the ones that she wants. f she can't reach the toy that she chooses, then you may hear her protest very loudly over it!

She will now be displaying emotions and facial expressions... after months of watching people around her, she's finally grasped the concept!

You will now be weaning your baby (this is a real fun baby development milestone!) or thinking about it. Start with a little baby rice mixed with breast or formula milk. This will get baby used to a texture other than the liquid that she is used too. After a week or so on the baby rice, try introducing single flavour foods, maybe a little blended carrot, or some other root vegetable. Do be careful to only introduce one new food every 4 or 5 days. This way, if baby has an allergy it is alot easier to detect what is causing the problem than if you are introducing 2 or 3 at a time. Weaning shouldn't be rushed, your baby has her whole life to experience new flavours!

If you think she is not taking to it too well, then wait for a day or so and try again. Don't try to feed baby with solids when she is over excited or tired. A calm relaxed baby is often the easiest baby to try with new foods and textures.

Each baby development milestone is made easier by a fun relaxed atmosphere... Your baby wants to learn as much as she can from you, help her to explore her life in positive ways.

How about a look at the next 3 months
