Am I pregnant ?? I am confused with implantation bleeding..plz. help

by lily
(michigan)

we started to plan for a baby this month. I always feel my ovulation day as its slight pain on sides of abdomen always. It was 19th of the month. last month I got my periods on 7th and a month before it I got periods on 9th... so this time it was due on 5th. And I got it on 5th. since five days I felt nausea every now and then specially for few hrs in evening and little cramps and sore breast too from about 10 days that normally I have only a few days before period. I was happy may be I am pregnant and was waiting for the missed period.
But , on 4th no nausea no cramps . On 5th morning I started to bleed like a normal period . first few hrs is like it is always....first few hrs brownish and then normal flow. shall I wait more ??I felt sad that I am not pregnant.
But then I found out in websites that say sometimes you bleed because of implantation on the day or before expected period. Again I am hopeful but very much confused. what next step shall I take ??

I took some pain medications for toothache during this month and undergone rootcanal treatment in which local anaesthesia was given. Is it because of the treatment I felt nausea?? Is it because of that I am not pregnant??

please tell me more about the implantation bleeding. Can it be like normal period and how long should it last if it is implantation bleeding??

Hi Lily,

You sound very upset and confused and I'm very sorry to hear this.

Let me start with Implantation bleeding. This normally occurs around one week to a few days before your period is due. The reason for this is, when you ovulate and release an egg, If you have sex around this time the egg will normally be fertilised in the fallopian tubes. This fertilised egg then travels down the fallopian tubes and settles in the uterus. This takes a few days to happen. As the egg (now an embryo) implants into the lining of the uterus, this is where you can sometimes get implantation bleeding.

Not every women will experience implantation bleeding. But those who do experience it normally report it as being a spotting, or a very light bleed. Normally pink or brownish in color. It can last from a few hours to a few days. If the brownish bleed turns to a normal flow, it is very unlikely that you will be pregnant.

The nausea could be due to the root canal treatment and anaesthesia, but I really wouldn't know this for definite.

Sometimes when we want to get to pregnant so badly, and something like this happens we try to convince ourselves that we are pregnant, even though we know deep down that it's not very likely.

All I can advise Lily, if you now have a normal flow, then it sounds like it is your period. If it stops early, or changes to spotting, then you could buy and take a pregnancy test. This will give you an answer one way or another.

Seeing as you know when you ovulate through the pain that you feel, this gives you a good start in getting pregnant. Your periods sound very regular which also helps. It is only your first month in trying to get pregnant, and most women will take a few months of trying before anything happens.
